The sun is out and my roof is still leaking, so I will keep this short.

Rick Bishop, IPSSA Region 7 Director, and I met with the SD Safe Kids Coalition Coordinator to ascertain the type of support the chapter might receive from the coalition. The meeting was positive. I will update you at the general membership meeting.

I hope all of you received an invitation to the softball, volleyball and picnic lunch to be held at the Polinsky Childrens Center on Saturday, March 24th
from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Take a few hours out of your day to make a difference in these kids lives. Please call Terry Bussard at 619-593-7436 if you plan on attending. Spouses are welcome.

Guest Speakers
Harry Grogan with the Multiple Sclerosis Society spoke to us tonight. Harry gave us some background information on MS and told us a little about his own life with MS.
MS is a disease of the central nervous system. The body starts attacking itself. MS has an effect on the whole farnily Once one member has MS other farnily members have quite a bit of work to do in order to provide care for this individual. There is no cure at this time, there are three drugs that help slow down the progression of MS. The MS walk is one way the MS Society raises money to do research and help people whohaveMS. TheMS Society uses 60% of the lunds for research and 40% is for local chapters to help MS patients.

The goal this year is to raise 1.2 million dollars. Last year the goal was $800,000 and they raised $900,000. This will be the 3rd year our chapter has been in the walk. This year we have set a goal of $3 000 for the chapter. We will have IPSSA t-shirts this years~ It is a great outing for the entire family. a beautiful walk around the embarcadero and most importantly your donation is for a very worthy cause.

President's Report

Region 7 will continue to have a directory with pictures.

Region 7 will pay for 4.000 designated water watcher badges.

Prospective member Martin Bohaty was unable to attend tonight. We have a new prospective member. Karolyn French.

John Tryon of Suntrek was feeling ill and could not speak to us the evening.

Sick Leave

No one is out at this time. Howard Guerrant may be going out in April.

Blood Drive

The next blood drive will be held on Feb.24, 2001. Denny's Restaurant 8:00a.m. off 70th & 1-8. Come and have a free breakfast and perform a great service. 39 people donated blood last year.

Continuing Education

We had a good turnout for the advanced water chemistry class. 24 Members from our chapter attended.

Tom Oharib and Perry Mediate received a certificate of service for their work on the MSDS notebooks.

ENTERTAINAMENT

We will be having a bowling day on Saturday March31, 2001 at the Kearny Mesa Bowl. See the flyer in the printed skimmer.

Padre games!! We have tickets for April 13th opening weekend and for the June 15th Sky Show.

The committee has been looking into alternate sites tor the Christmas party. More on that later.

PUBLIC RELATIONS

We will be spending Mar. 24th at the Polinsky Center. We will play some softball with the kids and have a catered lunch by Bekker's Barbecue Pit. Please join us for a rewarding afternoon.

Treasurer's Report
Mark presented his monthly report of income and expenses. As always we are in good shape financially. (See printed Skimmer for the detailed report). Manufacturers rebate check came in.

Prospective new members:
Martin Bohaty will begin again with his three consecutive meetings. Karolyn French will begin her attendance requirements this month also.

Rob Blake will be speaking this month.

Nine chapter supporter advertisements expired in January. MIke will follow up with a letter and phone call to try and get them renewed

President's Report
The Region 7 Review is on the website. Water Chemistry test tentatively set for June. Books are available, see Mike Gregg.

Jon is looking for someone with good writing composition for the PR committee. Could that be you?

PROFILE OF AN IPSSA CHAPTER SUPPORTER

Daniel Charland is the owner/operator of the swimming pool division of American Leak Detection. Born in Granby, Quebec, Canada (I am sure you noticed the French accent..) he studied engineering at University of Sherbrooke and worked in the computer business for 7 years.

At the age of 28, Daniel accepted the challenge of'ered by his father: to acquire the family car dealership. Six years later, he realized that the car business was not for him and all he wanted was to get out of the of the corporate world and for a long time... After a few months of research he bought a campground located on Lake Champlain. "This was heaven", Daniel recalls. ft was hard work for 6 to 7 months during the spring and the summer, but while the country was covered with snow, Daniel and his young family were traveling in their motorhome throughout the United States. In 1985 during one of their trip, the family stayed for a month In a RV park in San Diego. They fell in love with the city and hoped that one day, they could come back for a longer period of time.

This great lifestyle had to come to an end when the children reached the school age.  Quebec is a very nice province but with their policy of "French only", Daniel felt his children would be limited. They moved to Kelowna, Brrtish Columbia In 1985 There, Daniel owned arid administrated an awning manufacture. Once more, when the "office work" became a burden, he sold the business and began to investigate the world of franchises. That is when he came across American Leak Detection. He would have loved to acquire a franchise in the U.S. at that time but could not get the working permit for an alien. So Daniel bought the rights of franchise for the province of Quebec. The children had now the previlege to transfer to and Engksh school and it was good to be back with family and friends. American Leak Detection became les Detections de Fuites ALD" The business was growing but more and more, Daniel resented the long cold winters.

In October 1995 at the American Leak Detection convention in Palm Springs, Daniel sat with the Franchisor and expressed his wishes to buy a territory in a warmer climate, especially in southern California. Was it destiny?? The swimming pool division of the South San Diego County was for sale.. With his experience and proven record in this business, Daniel was able to obtain a U.S. visa and acquired the franchise in January 1996.

Since, Daniel and Denise brought American Leak Detection to a higher level of dependabIlity and service. Last November 2000 at the American Leak Detection convention in Denver, they received the award for highest standards of customer service among the Southern California, Arizona and Nevada offices.
